De Grassroot wordt ingezet voor het vak Criminalistics, waarin studenten participeren met een verschillende wetenschappelijke achtergrond bijv. wiskunde, informatica, biologie of scheikunde. Voor de beroepspraktijk is samenwerken een noodzakelijke voorwaarde voor multidisciplinair werken. Door het inzetten en gebruiken van een wiki worden studenten uitgenodigd om samen met de andere groepsleden kennis op te bouwen en te delen. Binnen de wiki kunnen ze bijvoorbeeld bronnen uitwisselen en kennismaken met de toepassing van bepaalde technieken. Bedoeling is het leren van de studenten te verdiepen en het leren samenwerken te bevorderen.

Results:
The selection of a wiki was the result of analyzing an educational problem. During the preparation period of the course, an alternative wiki farm was selected (wikispot) to be used parallel to the wiki offered in Blackboard Learn. Not only the students found it a more suitable tool compared with the group that used Blackboard learn but also offered a better overview of the individual contributions useful for the assessment.

At the beginning, the preferred work form of the students was the division of tasks. Nevertheless, towards the end the feedback and argumentation cycles took place within the teams. Most of the students participated equally to produce a wiki that fulfilled the given requirements. In addition, a high percentage of students obtained a sufficient grade in the wiki and the quiz. 

The use of an assistance instructor (paid with this grant) was a key factor for the success of this project.
Most of the students found the activity useful, learned a lot about the subject and considered the teamwork beneficial.
